FUN FACTS!
The name for Oz in "The Wizard of Oz" was
thought up when the creator, Frank Baum, looked at his filing
cabinet and saw A-N, and O-Z, hence "Oz."

Parks & Housing Authority Programs
Oregon
Park- The children
have been excited by the new tetherball at the park. They
are still having their weekly marble tournaments. The
program is averaging 14+ kids a day. Recently with the hot
weather, the water feature at the park was turned on and
the staff allowed the children to get wet. The kids created
cards and flowerpot picture frames for mother's day.
Keyes-The site has been averaging 25 kids. We have
joined the Adopt a street program which means that we will
help maintain the streets of Keyes clean. The kids have
been doing a lot of exercising in our fitness program. We
have our first two official teen council members which are
Victoria and Billy Gonzales. These two members were elected
because they have been outstanding in and outside our
program. Both Victoria and Billy have participated in all
community events and are rewarded with field trip
attendance.
Parklawn Park-We have
been averaging 15 kids at the site. The kids have been
doing their homework at the site where Sammy has been able
to provide them with assistance. The kids have been playing
a lot of tether ball and soccer. They are looking forward to
field trips and summer activitites.
Salida Park-We have been averaging 30 kids per day at
the site. The teenagers have been playing a lot of
basketball and soccer on the black top. We are taking
soccer sign-ups at the site thru the middle of June. Kids
between 8 and 10 have been doing arts and crafts which they
really enjoy.
Westley Housing Authority-
We had two young adults graduate from Patterson High
School!! They have been attending the Westley program for
approximately 2 years!! Jose Ayala was in advanced
classes.....Manuel Quintero had a GPA of a 3.5 that
earned him a 'Block P'', which is an honor!! Both were
accepted into universities. The students were assisted with
their senior projects by our staff, Judy Benitez and German
Gaytan.

"PAL Program Spotlight"
May 2009
Tuolumne Elementary
School
is the spotlight program for May 2009
Our 5th and 6th grade students had an
opportunity to participate in an after school program
entiled, Kids with Cameras sponsored by the
Fireside Foundation. They came 6 weeks to teach the children
how to take pictures, load film and etc. The student's art
work was also featured in art exhibit where it was purchased
and some of the proceeds went to the child, the after school
program and the Foundation so other children could benefit
from this opportunity! We participated in the TID Poster
Contest and one of our six grade student's won first place
and received a $50 Savings Bond. Wish us luck as we
will have an entry in this year's Stanislaus County Fair.
The children have had many opportunities with clubs
especially our science, scrap booking and art clubs. Most
of the science projects were hands on and the children were
thrilled and engaged in every activity. The staff at
Tuolumne are always ready to take on new activities and make
it an adventure for the children. Kudos to the wonderful
staff at Tuolumne!!
