          ***The Coming of the Pool***

After about 6 years, the new Regional Water Safety Training Center in Empire is almost complete. Stanislaus County PAL has been a very important partner in  the preparation of the Center and has been selected to manage the pool and the Water Safety training Programs. Here are some photos of the construction of the Center.

In support of the Water Safety Training Center, a grass roots fund raising effort has sought out to raise revenue for management of the Center by selling 4" and 6" tiles to be painted by the purchaser and/or to be painted by the children of the Empire Community. The tiles will then be utilized as the back wall of the outdoor rinse-off shower area. Below are some photos of the ongoing tile fund raiser.

SCPAL Parks & Housing Authority Programs

During the months of March and April 2009 a lot of fun and fantastic events happened at our Stanislaus County Parks and Housing Authority of Stanislaus County sites.

At the Keyes Community Center, the kids have been participating in a fitness club that meets 3 times a week for 30 minutes. The kids also started the Junior Acheivement Program that teaches them several different life skills in a fun and exciting manner. The children have been playing a lot of basketball and are preparing for a 3 on 3 basketball tournament soon. The children from Keyes also participated in the Annual Community Cleanup and 2 Keyes kids learned about Teen Councils and teen involvement at the Annual Teen Youth Summit.

At Salida Park, they held a 3 on 3 basketball tournament with 8 teams participating and there have been new kids attending the program.

At Parklawn Park, over a dozen children participated in an art contest with prizes going to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The kids have been also playing alot of soccer and enjoying the new playground equipment.

    "PAL Kid of the Month"

Sabrina Cota is SCPAL Kid of the Month for March/April 2009. She is always well behaved and always takes pride in helping others. She is great friend to every student who comes in contact with her. She is an exemplary  student and is a pleasure to have in ASP here in Empire.

Congratulations Sabrina!

Waterpark Field Trip       "PAL Program Spotlight"
                            March/April 2009

Oregon Park is the Spotlight Program for March/April 2009.
Danny Munoz is the recreation leader at Oregon Park in Modesto. The Oregon Park program is one of the oldest SCPAL programs. The kids that attend the program are mostly from the Orville Wright Elementary School area. The children from the Oregon Park program have enjoyed a fantastic 2 months that included an Archery field trip co-sponsored by the YAHI Bowmen of Stanislaus County. The kids have been having mini marble tournaments and enjoy basketball and other outdoor games and activities. The Oregon program held an Easter/Spring party where the kids created bird feeders made from pine cones, peanut butter and bird feed. The partnership that SCPAL has with the Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation Department is an important part of the Airport District community.
